Discover the incredible Saja-Besaya Natural Park in Spain on a unique 3-day hike. Follow me to the heart of the Pyrenees and enjoy a colorful fall excursion.
The Saja-Besaya Natural Park, in Cantabria, dates back to 1988 and covers 2,500 hectares! It is located in the water basins of the two rivers of Saja and Besaya. It is famous for its pronounced altitude difference of 1,800 meters between the highest and lowest valleys. Furthermore, it is filled with spectacular beech, oaks, birch and holly trees.
On this trip, we’ll visit the most iconic spots in the park, including Suano and Reinosa. You can check the itinerary below for a more detailed description of what we’ll be doing each day.
This is an intermediate level trip. However, you don’t need to be extremely fit to join. We can stop along the way as many times as you want either to enjoy the views or rest for a bit. In the afternoons, we’ll try to stop in a local bar or restaurant to explore the culture and cuisine. We’ll also use a car to cover some distances. Make sure to review the list of necessary equipment below.

Pedro was so knowledgeable about the area, and graciously answered all our questions, even those unrelated to the hike. He was very kind in picking us up from Madrid for a small fee. He also took a bunch of photos of my husband and I during the trek, which I really appreciated since those are our only pictures together from our trip to Spain. I'd definitely recommend Pedro to anyone traveling to Madrid and interested in experiencing nature outside the city.
