Description

The months of sunshine and warm weather in the Argentinean Patagonia are absolutely gorgeous and any adventurer should make sure to include this stunning destination on their bucket list. Follow me on this 3-day guided trek in the Lanin National Park and venture into the wild landscapes of South America!

The Lanín National Park is the perfect spot to practice low-difficulty mountain trekking. As the days go by, we will discover refreshing waterfalls and spectacular lake beaches, always under the watchful eye of the Lanín Volcano, which shows us its different faces and changing beauty. This circuit is perfect for those novel trekkers who want to experience a true Patagonian adventure.

Bordering Chile to the West and the Nahuel Huapi National Park to the South, the Lanin National Park covers an area of 412,000 hectares and is home to 24 glacial lakes.

Our meeting point will be in San Martin de Los Andes, one of the most beautiful and emblematic cities in the region. From there, we’ll go to Laguna Verde Beach which will be the starting point of our expedition. This area has many attractions, including stunning forests. During this journey, we’ll lose ourselves in the magical green landscapes and discover diverse and unique flora and fauna. Moreover, we’ll discover the Portezuelo Waterfall, Lolog Lake and may even explore the Achen Ñiyeu Volcano.

Every day we’ll hike between 5 and 7 hours.  Then, by night, we’ll rest under the open sky in a tent. Hence, I recommend this 3-day trek to intermediate hikers only.  Additionally, it is essential to be in good physical shape. For a more detailed description of the trip, take a look at the itinerary below!

    Itinerary

Day 1: Laguna Verde – Rincón de los Pinos

Early in the morning,we’ll leave from San Martín de los Andes to Laguna Verde (2 hours).

From Laguna Verde Beach we’ll go to a forest and we’ll immerse into this magical green landscape.

During this journey, we’ll find the Portezuelo Waterfall and the Achen Ñiyeu Volcano. Around noon we will reach the highest part of this route (1500 meters above sea level) where we’ll rest and have lunch.

After lunch, we’ll descend through a new valley, where Coirones exist with abundance. We’ll continue to the Auquinco River and depending on the weather conditions, we’ll stop to enjoy the freshness of the water. In this valley it is common to find traces of red deers and wild boars and, if we are lucky, we may even spot some of them. Moreover, hikers will be amazed by the spectacular Araucarias. This very old and emblematic tree of the Lanín National Park has been one of the main food resources of the Mapuche people.

    Night in wild camping.

Total 7 hours of trekking. 16km.

Day 2: Rincón de los Pinos – Puerto Auquinco

We’ll continue our trail to the south through the same valley (Auquinco valley). Shortly after, we will have the last crossing of the river, and then begin a continuous descent towards the Lolog Lake.

When crossing through these forests, it is common to see birds such as the Pitío, a beautiful and friendly carpenter; the Giant Carpenter and the Huet.

In the afternoon, we will arrive at the shores of Lake Lolog where we can cool off and where we will spend the last night in a wild camp.

Total 5 hours of trekking. 11km

Day 3: Puerto Auquinco - Puerto Arturo

After a good breakfast on the coast of the lake we’ll start hiking bordering Lolog Lake through a closed, cool and wet forest. The path will give us incredible views to the south with the crystal clear waters of the lake at our feet. Two hours from the beginning of the hike we will arrive at Playa Bonita and if the day allows it, this place is ideal for a stop and a refreshing dip in the lake.

After lunch we will continue to Pto. Arturo where a transfer will be waiting to take us back to San Martin de los Andes.

Total 4/5 hours of trekking. 9.5km.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

    Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

    Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
