The beautiful province of Alicante is one of the most mountainous in Spain. It is located in the southeast of the country, in a region that already in Roman times was known as Lucentum, the city of light, due to the amount of sunlight that floods this area. With an average of three hundred days of sunshine per year and extraordinary landscapes, this 3-day trip in Alicante is undoubtedly an ideal plan if you are looking to venture into mountain trekking.
We can still see in Alicante remains of the Andalusian Muslim reign that lasted more than 700 years in Spain, unique constructions of the cultural legacy left by the Moors. On the first day, we explore the majestic Montcabrer, the most magical mountain in the Sierra Mariola. This mountain range separates the regions of Alcoià and Comptat (Alicante) from the region of Vall d'Albaida (Valencia) and the highest point is the Montcabrer at 1390 meters. This peak is one of the last mountains of the Betic mountain range of the peninsula shortly before it sinks into the Mediterranean Sea to later resurface in the form of islands to form the marvelous Balearic Islands. The whole mountain range is of great botanical interest thanks to its medicinal and aromatic plants.
On the second day of our trip, we will ascend the Sierra de Aitana, one of the most beautiful mountain enclaves in the Valencian Community. The peak of Aitana is the "roof" of the province of Alicante, at 1558 meters above sea level. The Sierra de Aitana has a micro-reserve of flora that is a series of small protected areas or points with the aim of preserving rare, endemic, or endangered botanical species. The diversity of the landscape is another of the great attractions of the Sierra de Aitana, where we can find slopes, valleys, and elevated heights as a result of the olive, almond, and cereal plantations.
On the last day, we finish with the climb of Puig Campana, at 1408 meters. It is a legendary impressive mountain that represents one of the best panoramic viewpoints of the area.
The gastronomy of Alicante is one of the highlights of the region. The province has 11 Michelin-starred restaurants. Influenced by its close proximity to the sea and the mountains, Alicante cuisine is composed of a wide range of delicious dishes, like the paella ( with vegetables and meat in broth ), the Olleta de músico ( roast lamb, with beans, blood sausage and chard steaks ), the mojama, and so many more. In addition, the Turrón de Jijona y el Chocolate de Villajoyosa are the most delicious sweet specialties.

We meet with the guide in Alicante city. Private transfer to Alcoy. He have the group presentation and explanatory meeting about the trip. Today we walk through the Sierra de Mariola Natural Park, a preserved limestone mountain. We go through a deep canyon where wild animals as vultures used to settle for a living. Then, we climb to Montcabrer, the second-highest peak in the region. We will have the opportunity to learn about the medicinal plants, trees, and fauna of the place. At the end of the route, we come back to the starting point to rest in a typical rural house, situated in an ideal location to relax and recover energy for the upcoming days.
Distance: 18 km – Altitude difference: +800 meters – Duration: 9 hours (includes stops) / Accommodation: Rural house ( Full Board included )
Today we will climb Sierra de Aitana (1557m), the highest peak in the province of Alicante, and the jewel in the crown. After breakfast, we hike to the Port of Tudons (1000m). Once there, the ascension begins. Gradually we go up the south face of the mountain until we reach a military establishment, located exactly on the geodesic vertex of the summit. From the top of the mountain, we will enjoy a great 360º view of the Alicante region. This is technically a simple route, and it can be adapted to the group's needs. We stay overnight in a typical rural house enjoying delicious local food.
Distance: 12 km – Altitude difference: + 600m – Duration: 8 hours ( includes stops ) / Accommodation: Rural house (Half-Board)
We wake up immersed in nature, ready to enjoy breakfast and continue our hike. The route to Puig Campana (1406m) is perhaps the most famous hiking route in the vicinity of Benidorm. It is ideal to disconnect from the masses looking for sun and beach, and even more if our passion is the love of the mountains. It is a route that will help you burn calories thanks to its 1000 meters of elevation gain, as Puig Campana is one of the peaks over 1000 meters closest to the Spanish coast.
Distance: 11 km – Altitude difference 1000 m – Duration: 9 hours (it includes stops)
