3 Days
Jun - Sep
Located in the Japanese region of Kanto, on the main island of Honshu, the stunning Nikko National Park will surprise you with its beautiful mountains, lakes and rich flora and fauna. Join me on this 3-day guided hike and I’ll let you in to all of its secrets!
During this 3-day, 2-night itinerary, we’ll cover some of Nikko National Park’s highlights. These include: Mt Nikko Shirane, Mt Nantai and the Senjogahara plateau.
Nikko National Park is located just 2 hours away from Tokyo. It is also easily accessible. Therefore, this 3-day guided hike could fit very well into your vacation in Japan. Don’t hesitate to contact me to find out about dates!
We will start with a hike around the Senjogahara plateau. There, we will get to appreciate some of its amazing scenery. Its beautiful waterfalls are unforgettable! We’ll walk for around 5 hours on this first day. The terrain here is quite flat and suitable for everyone.
Climbing to the summit of Mt Nantai on the second day will also be a special experience. Our hike starts with a visit to the shrine at the mountain gate, where we will receive a “charm” for our ascent. The route to the top takes around 6 hours to complete.
From the summit, you’ll enjoy views of the Chuzenji Lake. And, on a clear day, you may even see the Pacific coast 100 km away. Take into account that although the hike presents no technical difficulties, the terrain is quite steep and requires a good physical condition.
The third day is reserved for Mt Nikko Shirane. During our hike to the top, you’ll enjoy the ever-changing scenery of Japanese landscapes. From wild flowers to lush forests and culminating in a majestic volcanic lake at the top, the sheer beauty of the scenery will leave you in awe! We’ll hike for around 7 hours on this third day.
This 3-day hiking program in Nikko National Park is ideal for intermediate hikers. You also need to have a very good physical condition to handle some long days.
This hiking program is a great way to get off-the-beaten track. It’s also a good opportunity to get to know Japan and its culture in the company of a local guide. So don’t hesitate to contact me to book your hike!

Mountain Guide
I have enjoyed climbing mountains since I was a high school boy. Since then, I've also lived and worked in the Netherlands for 10 years and in the US for 7 years, where I have enjoyed climbing in the alps and in the Yosemite, and ski mountaineering in the alps.
After my return to Japan, I rediscovered the beauty of Japan's nature and its mountains. I would be very happy to share this with you, not only through climbing, but together with good local sake and food, and some photography under the stars.
I guide through the season, and my favourite mountains are my local mountains that are in Tanzawa area as well as Hakkoda in Aomori, in the North. My passion also includes photography. I will be able to give you lots of tips on mountain photography even if only have smartphone or compact digital cameras.

Yukio was a wonderful guide! Very much enjoyed this hike outside of the hustle and bustle of the tourist traps in Hakone, but still seeing all of the main attractions! Very enjoyable!

Yukio was GREAT! We realized our hotel was far away from our original planned meeting place so Yukio drove to our hotel to pick us up and created a whole new itinerary last minute to explore the area around Fuji Five Lakes. Yukio was also very consciousness about the weather and picked places that would work best for the rainy day that we had. He was extremely knowledgeable and continually told us interesting facts about the sights we visited. 100% would recommend!

The weather was not the best for a hike in the mountain but Yukio made it great. The trail was great the views would have been I’m sure. Yukio was great to talk with, had lots of information about the areas history and culture. The itinerary was wonderful with the hike, cable car, and train rides. I would recommend this day hike to anyone climb over and into a volcano.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
