Explore a remote area in the Limi Valley on this unique 20-day trip. This is a wilderness trek for every adventurer looking to explore beautiful Himalayan landscapes and the amazing culture this region has built over the years.
This remote Trans-Himalayan valley, located at 4000 meters high in the north of Humla district, borders Tibet in northwestern Nepal. It is like a small Tibet, with three different Lama ethnic villages. You will enjoy a fantastic trek through ancient buddhist communities, rare vegetation and natural wildlife.
This trek follows the Humla Karnali, the longest river in Nepal. Indigenous communities are settled in this region and have their own language, culture and traditions, all based on tibetan roots.
The name Limi comes from a Tibetan word meaning “people who live between two rivers”. It also has 3 important ethnic villages which you will visit during the journey: Tiljungma village (4100m), Halji village (3700m) which is the biggest of all, and Jang village (3930m). The ethnic culture in the Limi valley is very particular for being the only society ruled by its monastic theocracy among the Lama ethnic group in Humla.
On this trek we will have the pleasure to visit many cultural attractions. The Halji Monastery is one of the oldest and largest in Nepal and it is settled next to Limi river, surrounded by farmland hills. We will also visit Yalbang Monastery, where a hundred monks live with their Guru “Pema Rinpoche”. Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery, built in 1985 is the newest of the three, and it is also one of the main Nyingma monasteries which continues with the religious tradition of Khrag Thung Dudjom Lingpa.
This amazing trek also offers beautiful landscapes and natural highlights such as waterfalls at 2350m high, mountain lakes above 4400m (Tshom and Selima) and relaxing hot springs at 2700m. We will also be amazed by the rare flora and fauna in this exotic region, including medical and aromatic plants. Among the animals, we might find musk deers, himalayan tahrs, blue sheeps and, if we are lucky, a snow leopard.
This is a moderate trip and we will be trekking between 6 and 7 hours per day. Therefore, we require a good fitness level and trekking background. We will also be camping most overnights out, so please don’t forget to bring the necessary equipment.

Our guide Dr Flemming was excellent. He went above and beyond what we expected. We felt very safe and well trained to practice our climbing. Location was perfect and even though rain had been forecasted, they worked with us to make sure we could climb safely.
