With around 1000 mountains and peaks, the landscape of Argentina’s Mendoza province is a breathtaking spectacle. How would you like to customise your own mountaineering trip from its ample opportunities?!
I’m offering a two day trip in the mountains where we will summit a peak of around 4000 metres above sea level.
We will meet in Mendoza city and travel to the mountain together (likely a 2-3 hour drive). On our first day, we will take a hike and acclimitise to the conditions and altitude.
The second day, we will summit the mountain, enjoy unbelievable vistas of the surrounding mountainous landscape and then descend in the afternoon before returning to the city.
You can choose from a number of different peaks from the beautiful ‘Cordon del plata’ range, including; Cerro Stepanek, Cerro San Bernardo, Cerro Santa Elena, Cerro Adolfo Calle etc.
It’s also up to you what accomodation you would like to use, we can camp in the mountains under the incredible star filled sky or rest up in a comortable mountain lodge.
Given your location, you can’t leave Mendoza without sampling some of the fantastic local wine, which goes best when drank with a traditional asado meal. An asado provides you with a selection of barbequed meats to choose from.
Here’s your opportunity to customise your own trip in the stunning and wild landscape of Mendoza and to summit a 4000m mountain. Sign up now if you want to be part of this exciting excursion, I can’t wait to share this experience with you!
If you’re in the region then consider joining me on this 1-day 4-peak hike through gorgeous mountain scenery and with great company! Or if your keen for a greater challenge then check out this amazing 8-day ascension of the epic 5968m peak of Cerro Plata in Mendoza!
What experience and how fit do I need to be to climb this mountain? Is this program suitable for children or older people?
The “low” and “medium” difficulty levels are defined in relation to the options offered by the area. The low difficulty option is suitable for beginners, and we will adapt the itinerary according to your needs. However, you should keep in mind -especially if you have never been to the mountains- that Mendoza’s altitude implies an important aerobic demand in all the routes.
What is the best time of the year to climb this mountain?
The best time to do this activity is from October to May.
To do this activity between June and September, you should always take into account the conditions of the mountain. Each year is different in terms of snowfall and temperatures. Therefore, if you want to do it in winter you will need to be flexible, so that the plan can be adapted to the mountain conditions. If it is your first experience, we do not recommend going at that time of the year.
What is the guide-to-client ratio to climb this mountain?
As this is a personalized experience, the groups are closed. You will share the experience only with your group and the guide. If the group is bigger than 4 persons, you will have two guides.
Will there be porters to help to carry group and personal equipment?
We can reach the mountain hut with the car. And all the hikes are in the day from there. So we don't need to carry any weight.
Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment, and if so, what would be the approximate cost of that?
The personal gear is not included, but you don't need technical equipment, just hiking gear. In case you need to rent the sleeping bag, it cost 20 USD approximated.
How will accommodation and meals be handled on the mountain?
Although the mountain hut has all the comforts, it is rustic and both the bathrooms and the rooms will be shared.
The menus will be defined according to the logistics of each day, but will be homemade foods.
At what altitude do we sleep and start trekking?
All our trekking activities will begin at 2,950 meters above sea level, in the area of the huts, where we will also sleep. We will get there by vehicle, and since we will leave it parked next to us, you will be able to bring extra clothes for your comfort in the hut without having to carry them at any time.
Can I do this activity if I have no experience in mountain activities?
Yes, the less physically demanding itineraries are designed for inexperienced people. But it is important that you have a minimum level of physical fitness, since all the activities take place above 3,000 meters above sea level. The altitude generates a considerably higher aerobic demand than in mountains in other areas.

I was born in Córdoba, Argentina, where I was able to venture into mountaineering more than ten years ago. I took my first steps in the Sierras de Córdoba, and from there, I set out to explore higher mountains.
Five years ago, I achieved my dreams when I came to Mendoza to become a professional mountain guide and earn a living doing what I love. Two years from now, we created our own adventure tourism company in Mendoza.
For the last 3 years, I have been working in a foundation, as an instructor in first aid and rescue in wild areas, training government agencies, guides, etc. I have made Advanced emergency medical technician in Buenos Aires, with real ambulance hours.

Highly recommended!!! Joaquín and Venina were fantastic and fun guides! On the first day we went out to approx 3200m for acclimatization and enjoyed a delicious meal next to the tent with fantastic views. On the second day we went up to the summit. We felt save and in great company during the whole trip. Communication before and after was easy, fast and helpful e.g. for renting some equipment. Would definitely do it again!

Overall, this was a fantastic hike. You get some astonishing views and can take different routes according to your fitness level and interest. Personally, I enjoyed our quick stay at the high camp where we got to meet several people who were acclimatising for their ascends to the higher peaks. Also, we really enjoyed the time with Joaquin. Thanks to his fun personality and intersting conversations (also fluent in English which helped in my case) the time together went by way too quickly. Even before the beginning of the trip he gave us a lot of proactive advise when we wanted to choose a route that suited our demands and later he helped us with finding places to get some extra gear. During the trip and thanks to Joaquins deep knowledge of the region, he was able to adapt the route we were taking when my friend suffered from some altitude sickness. Also, a big plus was the great food that we had during the trip, including some (fantastic!) homemade carrot mayo and the asado we prepared on the first evening which was the best meal we had in Argentina.

I did a four days mountaineering tour with Joaquin and it was great. Joaquin understands to put the foucs on the needs of the customers and his knowledges about the region in the Andes is quite extensive. It was especially great beacuse the nice personality of Jaoquin allowed us to have good talks and insights about the Argentinian culture and life. Can only recommend him!
