Description

At 2,386 meters, Maglić is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s highest mountain. It is situated in a gorgeous forested area which was deemed Sutjeska National Park in 1962.

On this tour we’ll depart from Mostar and make a stop in a small village called Tjentiste to see a WWII monument. Then, as we enter the national park, we’ll find ourselves in Perućica, Europe’s last remaining jungle. A short walk leads us to a viewpoint where we can appreciate its beauty. Two more hours of hiking brings us to the green, heart-shaped Trnovačko Lake. It’s by this lake that we’ll either camp or spend the night in a mountain hut. But first we’ll enjoy a nice swim or a visit to the local cattle breeders, followed by some down time by the fire.

On day two it will take us about three hours to reach the mountain’s summit, where of course we’ll have time to soak in the amazing views of colorful scenery and take pictures. We’ll then return to our camping spot to swim or just relax. Later, a two hour walk will leave us back at our vehicle for the return to Mostar.

Come on this two-day hike to experience the stunning Sutjeska National Park and for the satisfaction of summiting the country’s tallest peak. It’s an exciting adventure that you won’t soon forget.

Also check out the other tours I offer, like this day hike to the top of Čabulja Mountain or this trek in the hidden canyon of the Bijela River.

Hiking Guide

Welcome to your Herzegovina Hiking Adventure. My name is Miroslav Mihalj, born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am the current president of the Croatian Mountaineering Association “Prenj 1933 Mostar”, certified Mountain Guide and Rescuer and I offer hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring tours around this beautiful region.

As mountain hiker I am proud to have climbed some of the highest peaks in Europe and Balkans as well as local peaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which I have climbed numerous times both in winter and summer.

I enjoy nature, that feeling of freedom and serenity the mountains offer. They are a place to find yourself and push your boundaries. I’m lucky to have been born in a place surrounded by beautiful and intact mountain ranges hiding the most exciting nature my country has to offer.

Very much excited to meet you and share with you this truly wonderful world!
