Description

I will take you on this thrilling 2-day hike on Čvrsnica Mountain, a paradise for hikers and climbers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where we’ll attempt the high peaks of Veliki Vilinac & Pločno!

Located in northern Herzegovina, Čvrsnica Mountain lies in the Dinaric extension of the Swiss Alps. It hides more than ten summits above 2000m. You will be captivated by the breathtaking views as we climb two high summits on this trip including Pločno (2228m), the highest peak in the region.

Along the way, we’ll spot clear-water lakes hidden in the mountain. The area is so serene and peaceful, you will feel connected to the elements of nature!

On the first day, we’ll meet in Mostar (or any other city which falls on the way to our destination, depending on agreement) and drive to our starting point in Blidinje Nature Park. This nature park is home to many endemic species and multiple sources of clean water. From there, we’ll start our hike to Veliki Vilinac Summit (2116m).

You will be stunned by the scenic beauty as we head towards a unique natural monument called Outlaws Gate (Hajdučka Vrata). This remarkable stone circle is formed over thousands of years and qualifies as an ideal place for those in search of peace and tranquility. We’ll stay overnight at Vilinac Hut, overlooking nearby mountains. This day entails 5-7h of climbing with 1000m assent.

On the next day, we’ll  attempt the majestic Pločno summit (2228m), commonly known as ‘Herzegovina’s roof top’. Hiking for about 6-7 hours, we’ll rise around 900m in altitude. You will be awe-struck by the breathtaking sight of the neighbouring peaks.

Later, we’ll head back to Blidinje Nature Park and enjoy tasty local cuisine at the national restaurant. After a satisfying lunch, we’ll drive back to Mostar, completing our memorable trip.

Request you to join me on this immensely rewarding hike, book your trip now! I will be waiting for your message. Also, if you are interested to take a walk through history in the same area, check out this intriguing day hike on King Karadjordjevic’s old Hunting Trail on Mount Čvrsnica.

    Hiking Guide

Welcome to your Herzegovina Hiking Adventure. My name is Miroslav Mihalj, born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am the current president of the Croatian Mountaineering Association “Prenj 1933 Mostar”, certified Mountain Guide and Rescuer and I offer hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring tours around this beautiful region.

As mountain hiker I am proud to have climbed some of the highest peaks in Europe and Balkans as well as local peaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which I have climbed numerous times both in winter and summer.

I enjoy nature, that feeling of freedom and serenity the mountains offer. They are a place to find yourself and push your boundaries. I’m lucky to have been born in a place surrounded by beautiful and intact mountain ranges hiding the most exciting nature my country has to offer.

Very much excited to meet you and share with you this truly wonderful world!

We really enjoyed our trip with our guide Mijo. He was extremely good in communicating at WhatsApp and very flexible. We ended our trip in a beautiful river with amazing surrounding view. I can highly recommend to do some hiking in the mountains around Mostar, really worth it.

    Peter

Due to lack of snow the trip became a hike instead of a snowshoeing trip. Nevertheless it was an awesome experience in pristine mountain area. Miroslav was great. We didn’t meet another sole the full 22km and the lunch stop at the mountain hut was excellent.

    Lewis

Miroslav was a fantastic guide. We wanted to see Outlaw’s Gate up Čvrsnica but didn’t know where to begin, including how to get to the trailhead. Miroslav picked us up from Mostar and took us up to the top. Friendly, knowledgable and funny, we always felt at ease with his expertise on the route. Miroslav is the best guide in Herzegovina - cheers!

    Alessandra

My brother and I had a great day hiking with Miroslav, it was a beautiful route and matched my expectations in terms of difficulty. Miroslav patiently answered all my brother’s questions on the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina!

    Isabell

I enjoyed my time with Miroslav a lot! He is a great person and an even greater tour guide! He is very knowledgeable about the whole mountain area around Mostar (and more) and very professional. He made me feel comfortable the whole time and adapted the tour spontaneously to my needs and wishes, which I appreciated a lot! So at the end we even did a beautiful via ferrata which was not the original plan and I loved it so much! He also brings local food a is so knowledgeable about history and other interesting things about Bosnia and Herzegowina. We had good conversations and a great time together! Thank you Miroslav!!:)
