Lying at the foot of the High Atlas mountain range, the historic market town of Amizmiz is the perfect base to explore this beautifully remote area of Morocco.
Around 50 minutes away from the imperial city of Marrakech, we will trek among the culturally rich region of Amizmiz, home to the Berbers. With over 4,000 years of history, this indigenous community of North Africa has an everlasting stream of custom and tradition.
We will trek far from the tourist trails and stay in the simple accommodation of the village houses with Berber families, who I consider close friends.
Trekking days will average around 12-15 kilometers each day, or approximately 6-8 hours of walking each day.
Away from main roads, we will be following the donkey paths that cut between villages and across stunning cols.
If you are wanting a challenge, there are choices to cross 2,000-meter ridgelines or even a trek to Jbel Gourza, a peak that stands 3,200 meters tall.
And if you fancy a stronger test, there is the option to climb Jbel Erdouz, a more technical peak stretching 3,500 meters. This is the highest mountain in the area, and requires some scrambling, although no ropes are needed.
Spend your evenings learning how to make traditional Berber bread, explore the local villages, or enjoy a traditional hamam (steam room) for ultimate relaxation.
Reserve your place now to experience the centuries-old Moroccan village of Amizmiz and its surrounding natural beauty. Trek the hills and even conquer the nearby Atlas Mountains.

Mountain Leader
I am a certified International Mountain Leader and a Summer Mountain Leader (UK). In addition, I hold a Diploma in Conservation and Wildlife Management.
Originally from Great Britain, I am now based near Marrakech, in Morocco. Actually, in a Berber town at the foot of the Berber Mountains.
The love for travel runs in my veins. In the Sahara I lived with nomads. In Siberia I met reindeer herders. In Mongolia I traveled with yurt-dwellers.
The stunning landscapes and nice people of Morocco have enchanted me, which is why I now live here. My goal is sharing with my clients the exotic beauty that I've discovered here.
The environment is of extreme importance to me. In particular, I'm interested in geology and birds of prey.
Besides speaking English and French, I can get by in Berber.
My work is not limited to this area: I also do the Tour du Mont Blanc trek in the Alps.

Amazing three days spent running in the Atlas Mountains with Marc, a highly professional and super friendly guide. We passed through Berber villages where we stopped off for tea and took in 35-30kms most days in amazing conditions. Can't wait for my next trip!
