Guarding the eastern front of the Canadian Rockies is Kananaskis Country, home to the Peter Lougheed, a stunning park system of alpine skiing areas.
Approximately 90 kilometers from Calgary, and a 20-minute drive from Canmore, the close proximity of Kananaskis offers a quick city escape into the mountainous wilderness.
The wide open spaces of the park pull in mountain admirers, from hikers to cross country skiers. Yet the routes that we’ll take will get us beyond the steady stream of skiers, and take us into the wild.
There’s a wide range of routes available to explore, such as the Burstall North Pass, one of the shorter and more popular passes. With steady flat terrain mixed with bursts of steep slopes, along open valleys and through forest, it offers a good variety of exploration.
The French-Haig-Robertson Traverse offers a lengthy day of skiing in which a great level of fitness is a precondition. The challenging glacial terrain offers wonderful rewards in the Canadian wilderness.
The French Glacier is a smaller trail in the French Creek Valley that follows the drainage all the way up the glacier. And with certain conditions we may have to find detours through forested areas.
The Haig Glacier, which is sandwiched between the French and Robertson glaciers, is a vast landscape of trails, and one of the more spectacular sports of the Rockies.
And these are just a short sample of possibilities available to you. With my experience and knowledge of ski touring and as well as of the region, we’ll choose the best possible trails specified to your own level of skill and experience.
The Kananaskis Country is also home to a deep diversity of wildlife. Black and grizzly bears share the frosty land with deer and moose, wolves and lynx, cougars and bighorn sheep.

Admin was efficient for paying Communications were hit and miss. Took too long to answer questions about the day / route etc. We were beginners and the guide chose a route that was too challenging. One member of group dropped out the day before. The requested refund never even got a reply about. Let alone confirmation

We were 3 days with Brent in the mountains. Brent is an excellent guide and knows the mountains very well. We were there where no other people were so we had the mountains to ourselves. So if Brent has time definitely book him we can highly recommend him.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
