Mount Everest, the gem of the Himalayas, doesn’t need much introduction. It is a true legend that excites mountaineers, and in this occasion I propose you a trek to Everest Base Camp in 19 days.
We will be in the Khumbu Region that, besides the Everest, also hosts the famous Nuptse and Ama Dablam peaks. It is not necessary to embark for an ascent to the summit of a peak to enjoy an adventure here. In fact, this trek to the base camp will allow you to explore the picturesque villages and sacred valleys. Besides, you will be surrounded by the unforgettable panoramas of the Himalaya. It will be an inspiring trip where you will learn a lot from the unique local culture.
Each day will be magical in its own way. We will find ourselves trekking with the most amazing views, in the heart of sacred regions. In addition, we will have our share of ascents! We will climb Kala Patthar (5577m), which is an excellent first experience in the Himalaya. The views over larger peaks of the area are unforgettable!
Please see the daily itinerary below for more details. I also offer an optional ascent to Lobuche East. In this case, the trip will last 4 more days. After reaching the Everest base camp, we will return to Lobuche and complete the ascent of the East summit.
For this expedition you need to be in good physical shape, and have at least basic snow and glacier traveling skills.
During the trek, we will sleep in guest houses of Sherpa villages. This will give you an insight into the traditional and monastic communities, and you will enjoy the warmth of the Sherpa people.
Tempted to trek to Everest base camp? Then send me a request and I will make it happen! If you are looking for other dates or a privately guided tour, I can also arrange it.
Trekking is my passion. I can also guide you up to the summit of Aconcagua, in the Argentinean Andes, check it out!
Arrival in Kathmandu. We stay at the Yak and Yeti hotel for 2 nights in shared rooms.
We visit the Monkey Temple and Bodnath Stupa.
We fly to Lukla airport (2800m). If the weather is good, during the flight we will get amazing views of the Eastern Himalayas. Overnight at Phakding (2610m), 3 hours hiking from Lukla.
Today we continue trekking, getting deeper into the Khumbu region. Acclimatization hikes. Upon arrival to Namche (3444m), we might see lowland porters, highland Sherpas and Tibetans trading food and supplies at the market.
We rest and do an acclimatization hike.
We go by the Tengboche village (3865m). It is the cultural and religious center of Khumbu. From here the views are stunning: Thamserki and Kangtega to the south, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam to the north.
Arrival to Deboche (3930m).
Pheriche (4207m) is famous for the high altitude research center, where physicians acquire data in order to analyze the effects of high altitude on human physiology. We will visit the center and talk to the physicians.
Lobuche (4909m) is located at the flank of an old lateral moraine of the glacier Khumbu. It is the last inhabited area before the Everest base camp.
It is possible to ascend Lobuche (it would take 4 extra days, ask me for more information!).
We hike up to Gorak Shep (5158m). From there we will ascend Kala Patthar (5577m), with impressive views over Everest, Nuptse and Pumori.
We will hike to base camp (5350m) and set camp for 2 nights. We will have a warm welcome celebration. We will have the opportunity to hike to the base of Khumbu Icefall. From there we will get a good view of the route.
Today we begin our return. On the first night we will stop at Phreiche, on the second night at Deboche.
Today is the last trekking day as we descend to Lukla.
Early morning flight to Kathmandu. Day off to relax and enjoy a good meal. Yak and Yeti hotel (2 nights).
If the trek needs to be postponed for some reason, we will use this day. Otherwise, it will be a great final day in Kathmandu.

If you choose to add the ascent of Lobuche Easy, the total price will be USD 5200.

We had an excellent experience with Willie Benegas, he was knowledgeable and inclusive and would by all means join him again.
Jonathan
Willie was hugely experienced and adapted the day according to our inexperience, late middle age and heavy snow fall. It was an exhausting climb and when the weather became even more inclement we bailed out and skied down the way we had come. Willie had already displayed great flexibility with the date, trying hard to negotiate a series of storms coming across the region. In the end we made the best of a bad situation. Be prepared for additional expense. Touring skis, skins, boots and poles plus the backpacks, shovels, search poles and beacons all adds up. With tip that will add another $150 per person. The day was a real adventure and certainly a memorable one. Don't underestimate the level of fitness required. We are pretty fit but it didn't feel like it was enough!

We all had a great day out with Willi. He found us some great snow to ski. And even with a few technical issues, he worked round it with ease. He shared alot of knowledge with us all, so we all had a great powder day. We would highly recommend this trip. Tom

Willie Benegas was a superb guide for our first BC ski adventure in the Wasatch. Friendly and highly competent, he accurately assessed the conditions and our ability, and planned a trip that was both challenging and fun. Highly recommended!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
