We will meet at the airport and transfer you to the hotel, where have a brief about the tour. Night at the Hotel Holiday Inn Forum.
After breakfast, we will drive for 3 hours to Londres and start our hike to Los Campesinos Eco Lodge. We will go across the rainforest, cross a bridge and contemplate the sunset at the end. We will spend the night at the lodge (B/D).
On day 3, we will cross two forests, a canyon, and get to see a wide variety of flora and fauna. Finally, we will reach a fantastic viewpoint of the Pacific Ocean, the Savegre River, and the surrounding villages and beaches. From this point, we will descend to San Isidro de Dota and experience the tranquility of the natural environment around Rancho Tinamu, our accommodation (B, L, D).
Every day of the trip, we climb a little higher and deeper into the rainforest. The ascent to Betania Refuge is very varied, from steep sections to towns and small rivers. Before we reach the hut, we can see the beautiful “la Bomba” waterfall. Accommodation: Betania Refuge (B, L, D).
After we leave the refuge, we will go into the tropical rainforest, where we will discover the Resplendent Quetzal, a colourful bird typical from the area and very important for the Maya and Aztec cultures. Here, we will also find the Tapir and Pumas, as well as other mammals. Our accommodation will be at Refugio Rejas, a small farm where we will cook dinner (B, L, D).
This will be a very long hiking day from de Farm to the mountain town of Providencia. The path leads us through woods full of beautiful Oak Trees up to 200 years old. Accommodation at Tomi Lodge (B, L, D).
On this day, we will hike to the Valley of the Savegre River through blackberry and coffee plantations. This River starts in the mountains and ends in the Pacific Ocean, near the Manuel Antonio National Park. In the Hotel Savegre, we will be able to take a nice hot shower (B, L, D).
Carrying a small backpack and after an early breakfast, we will start climbing to the top of the Cerro Buena Vista (3,492 meters). The rest of our equipment will be transferred by bus, which we will meet at the top. We will enjoy hiking through forests and have an unforgettable experience. Once we reach the summit, we will see the highest mountain in Costa Rica: Cerro Chirripo, our next target. The bus will take us from the Summit to San Isidro de El General and then to the Hotel Pelicano (B, L, D).
After breakfast, we will go to the National Park office and sign in for the hut and Park. It is very important that every member of the group brings his passport. Afterwards, we will prepare the equipment that will be carried by porters to the hut. Halfway between the office and San Gerardo, we will find the family-operated “Aguas Thermales Gevi”, where we will relax at the hot springs. On our way, we will enjoy the natural beauty of plants, flowers, and trees of every type. Accommodation at Hotel Peliano (B, L, D).
On this day, we will start our hike to reach the Crestones Base Hut in Chirripó National Park, located at 3,372 meters above sea level. Our journey across the tropical rainforest will be a wonderful experience and will have a duration of around 8 hours. The halfway point will be Llano Bonito, and here a picnic lunch will give us the energy to continue. After the second four hours, we will arrive to Crestones Base, where we will find our shelter for the following day. Dinner will make us warm before our night in Chirripó (B, L, D).
The hike from the refuge to the summit of Cerro Chirripo is about 5km. After the climb, we will see the sunrise from the highest point in the country. It will be unique! Also, we will enjoy the amazing sights of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, if weather conditions allow it. After conquering this summit, we will return with amazing pictures and enjoy breakfast in the hut. Then, we will head back to San Gerardo de Rivas and have a hot shower and a nice dinner (B,L,D).
On our last day, we will drive for 4-6 hours to San Jose and finally arrive at the Juan Santamaría International Airport. If the plane leaves before the afternoon, we can depart a day earlier (B).

Mountain Guide
IFMGA / UIAGM Mountain guide
I was born in Admont, a small town in Styria in Austria, in the center of the Austrian mountains. After my school, I studied motor vehicle mechanic. Beside my hobbies (skiing, nordic ski, running and soccer) mountain climbing was a very important part of my free time activities.
There are experiences in our life we will never forget. When I was 10 years old, my dad took me one day to a local mountain tour. We were climbing over a local and very famous waterfall. I was so impressed about this experience that my interest for mountain climbing was awake forever. After that, I started to take climbing courses with various alpine associations.
Later, I used to climb repeatedly very famous mountains like the “Rosskupenkante”, the north wall of “Perternschartenkopf”, the north wall of “Dachl” and the north wall of “Rosskupen”. My first foreign experience was in Croatia in “Velebit” and in Italy, in the Dolomites, where I did several tours there. Now, since 22 years, I work as a professional mountain and ski guide all over the world.
I guided successfully more than 30 expeditions and more than 50 trekking tours. I give climbing and ice courses to students; children adventure weeks, firm events, canyoning and rafting tours, and much more. Here are some of the peaks I climbed these last years: Alpamayo, Toclaraju, Huascaran, Cotopaxi, Cimborazo, Iztaccihuatl, Pico de Orizaba, Aconcagua, Denali, Pic Lenin, Gasabrum II, etc.
My philosophy: Go outdoor and explore the beautiful magic of the nature, to experience and to enjoy unique moments! It can be in the Alps or on top of the highest mountains of the world or in the nature paradise of Costa Rica (where I live now for the last 13 years). Come with me and let’s carry out together a great adventure!

It was no space available in the Chirripo hut, and Armin gave us the option to try the Uran mountain, that is like 'next door' :) The service was fantastic - people are super nice, food is completely awesome. And, I was able to finish the climb just thanks to Armin - he led the group in very comfortable pace.

Cerro chirripo is a great trek. Armin did a wonderful job organizing both the details of the trip and setting a very good pace. He also gave terrific service getting me to the next point in my trip. The accomodations both at the base at the pelican and the hut exceeded my expectations. The food at the pelican is amazing and features farm products from the property. If you have a chance at the pelican to sit with Wilson who has a great eye for spotting local birds Don't hesitate to book Armin for this trip or any other.
We made a self planned trip to Chile and Argentina to climb Volcan San Jose and Aconcagua. While we are fairly experienced climbers and mountaineers at lower elevations we had Armin as our guide for Aconcagua. He was our insurance for our lack of high altitude experience and organizer with the local support agency. It was a very nice experience. Armin for the most part let us run around on our own as we wanted and only reigned us in when he thought it appropriate. When he forced us to make a rest day in camp at about 5500m altitude to improve our acclimation we were not happy because we thought we were strong and wanted to continue. The photos of our faces in camp that rest day and the fact that I barely remember the day as I was falling asleep all the time tells me that he was very right and we needed rest. He did exactly what we wanted from him; protect us from our own enthusiasm and inexperience. Two days later we all reached the summit. It never felt like having a guide that was calling the shots but like traveling, trekking, and climbing with a very experienced friend. Thanks Armin, "pura vida"!
We made 3 individually organised trips with Armin in Costa Rica and Panama. What we like is especially the combination of mountaineering, trekking and enjoying the nature. We know Armin as a responsible, flexibel and patient guide. He met our expectations, not only because of his professional manner, his knowledge of the country and the Spanish language. With his Austrian charme and his wide-ranging interest about the country with all its facets, we had a lot of amusing evenings and interesting discussions. We can recommend Armin for mountain tours as well as for observing the rarely seen green macaw in the rainforest :-).

the uran chirripo trek was a beautiful experience! All organized very well and the guide Armin Liedl is not simply a guide but a man who loves his job, a true professional who talks to you about the history of the place you are going through, about the fauna and flora, a guide who "feels" from the first minutes such as are your skills and cares about the best outcome of the course. My wife and I are thrilled that we managed to complete this trek without difficulty and that's thanks to Armin. A great person who we won't hesitate to contact for a future trek.
