Description

I will guide you on this truly awesome and stunning 1-week trek in the Chapada Diamantina National Park in Bahia, Brazil, a park with absolutely jaw-dropping and breath-taking scenery around every turn, with lush green forest, vast valleys, majestic mountains, mesmerizing waterfalls and countless exotic species of flora and fauna making for a kaleidoscope of colour and allure.

The Chapada Diamantina National Park is located in the East of Brazil, in the state of Bahia, and includes such features as the highest waterfall in Brazil (390m) and housing such protected species as cougar’s, jaguar’s, oncilla’s, giant armadillos and giant anteaters.

We meet on the first day in the old diamond mining town of Lencois, and the afternoon is spent exploring this quaint, charming and rustique colonial town.

Over the course of the subsequent 7 days we will be heading out early each morning to explore and discover as much of the national park as we can, with every day full of activities such as hiking through the numerous valleys forests and mountains, swimming in the myriad of pools, springs and lakes, and taking in the sweeping panoramic views out over the exquisite landscape and terrain.

Highlights of the trip include visiting Cachoeira da Fumaca, the highest waterfall in Brazil at 390m high, ascending to the summit of the postcard-pretty top of Fumaca, seeing the awesome ‘Cave of the Castle’, a humongous quartzite cave, and hiking along an old pack-horse and mining trail to the cute village of Guine.

We finish the trip on the 9th day, happy at having spent the previous week marveling at some of the most magnificent, superb and lovely natural scenery in Brazil.

Day 1: Meet

Meet in the town of Lencois, Bahia.

Day 2: Trek

Hike in and around the hills near Lencois.

Day 3: Trek

Hike to Cachoeira da Fumaca, the highest waterfall in Brazil.

Day 4: Trek

Trek to the summit of Serra do Sincora.

Day 5: Trek

12km of hiking to the ‘Cave of the Castle’, a massive quartzite cave.

Day 6: Trek

22km of hiking around the Pati Valley.

Day 7: Trek

15km of hiking to big waterfalls.

Day 8: Trek

Hike along old mining trail to the village of Guine.

Day 9: Finish

Finish trip.
