Description

The slopes, valleys, forests and views of Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe are the ideal terrains for ski mountaineering, and I will lead you on this brilliantly fun and educational 1-day introduction to ski mountaineering around this truly stunning and epic region, as we traverse around the myriad of routes on offer to us and learn a bit more about the techniques and gear required to increase your confidence, and thus our enjoyment of the activity.

Squaw Valley is the second-largest ski resort in the Lake Tahoe district, which straddles the California and Nevada border, and is one of the largest ski areas in the country. The region also hosted the 1960 Winter Olympic Games, and is a popular destination for outdoor activity enthusiasts in both Winter and Summer.

We will meet in the morning in Squaw Valley, and after a brief chat about the structure of the day, we swiftly head off in to the mountains. Over the course of the day we will be covering such skills as steep skiing techniques, basic snow and ice climbing techniques with ice axes and crampons, ski crampons and rope technical systems for glaciated terrain.

These techniques and skills will help you tackle some of the more challenging mountains around, and with our local expertise we will be able to go the best spots on the mountains away from the crowds, so as to learn in relative peace.

The views and scenery are some of the best in the country, with the focal point being the special and awesome Lake Tahoe, the second-deepest lake in the United States and an impressive sight to behold.

We finish the day hopefully having significantly boosted your ski mountaineering confidence and made you want to explore even more of this skiing paradise.

Will was great wise and fun to spend the day with.

Phillip

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Lucie

All perfect

Amanda

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
