Description

The Aosta Valley is a mountainous region of Italy very popular among winter adventures lovers. This freeride skiing trip is your chance to explore some stunning powder slopes with an expert!

Located in northwestern Italy, on the border with Switzerland, the Aosta is an alpine valley lying at the foot of impressive peaks such as Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn. Offering several resorts, the area is a perfect point for skiing adventures.

The goal of this tour is to reach some powder areas close to the lifts and enjoy thrilling freeride descents. At lunch time we will make a stop to enjoy delicious traditional dishes.

Our optional starting points are Courmayeur, La Thuile, Cervinia/Zermatt, Gressoney/Alagna and Crevacol. If you join me for several days we can explore all these areas! Keep in mind that for this tour you need to be a good piste skier and to have a medium fitness level. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you on the way.

So, if you are up for this awesome freeride skiing trip in Italy, please contact me. Let’s enjoy the top-quality snow of the Aosta Valley!

FAQs

What backcountry skiing experience do I need to join this tour?

To join this freeride skiing tour, you should have at least an intermediate level of skiing ability. It's important that you feel comfortable skiing off-piste, as we will be skiing in unmarked and ungroomed areas. If you're looking to improve your skills or experience new terrain, this tour can be tailored to your experience level. If you're new to ski touring, I can also suggest a more gradual program over several days.

What equipment should I bring?

You will need to bring your own skis and boots. If you don't have avalanche safety gear (shovel, probe, and transceiver), I can rent this to you for 25 euros per person per day. For Vallée Blanche descents, I will provide harnesses.

Can I rent gear?

If you need to rent other equipment, such as skis with light bindings for carrying on the backpack during the hike, I can assist with rental suggestions.

What happens if the weather is bad?

In case of bad weather at one location, we will look into alternatives along the valley. Options include Courmayeur, La Thuile, Cervinia/Zermatt, Gressoney/Alagna and Crevacol. For example, sometimes if the weather is bad in Courmayeur, we can find better conditions in nearby areas like La Thuile.

What is included in the price?

The guiding fee and necessary safety equipment (like harnesses for Vallée Blanche) are included. However, lift tickets, meals, and personal equipment rentals (like skis and boots) are not included.

Are there any extra costs?

Renting the avalanche safety kit costs 25 euros per person, and the ABS backpack is available for an additional 25 euros per day.

How long will we be skiing each day?

A typical skiing day lasts around 5-6 hours, depending on weather conditions and the group’s preferences. We generally meet at the lift at 9 a.m. and ski for the rest of the day.

Dear, we had a wonderful day and a nice trip. We expect to have some more tips of the guide about freeride skeeing, but it all worked out. The only downside is that I fell the last downhill and injured myself. I made it down on my own, but we had expected a little more help from the guide. Both doctors in Italy and in Belgium warned me that this was too great a risk and could have caused more serious injuries. Perhaps the guide should be a little more informed about what to do in these circumstances.
