The Massif des Calanques are a coastal range in the south of France between Marseille and Cassis. Renowned for their epic pitches, traverses, and many top tier climbing spots, the Calanques are sought after by rock climbers from all over the world who are looking for the best routes in the most beautiful places.
Stretching into the Mediterranean, the Bora Bora traverse at Cape Morgiou is a true test of mettle. It extends far over the water, and the rock has tons of courses for every skill level. It also connects to other routes along the cliffs, so there are many variations to try.
The proximity to the cities make it easy to access, but the remote location along the central coast of the Calanques adds some privacy to the Bora Bora traverse. Depending on the approach it can take upwards of an hour to get to the route.
You will enjoy amazing views and heart-pumping action as we move across the classic limestone walls. There are great climbs with difficulties from 5b to 6b, which are all enhanced by the unique environment along the cliffs.
The routes do provide some challenges, so a good fitness level and some rock climbing know-how are necessary to enjoy this program.
This region is one of my favorites, and I would be pleased to take you on a safe trip through some of the best locations in the Calanques. I can guarantee you will want to return to these beautiful cliffs as soon as you can.
Book this day trip now and climb the remarkable Bora Bora traverse in the Calanques!
If you had more adventure in mind, try spending a night in a portaledge along the Calanques! Or we can try the Sans Retour traverse further down the coast!

Mountain Guide
Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to become a mountain guide. Growing up in Aix-en-Provence, in southern France, the Alps have been my playground since a very young age. Amazing climbing spots like the Calanques and Gorges du Verdon were just a stone throw's away from my hometown.
Eventually, I also became an architect, another long-time passion. As an architect, I lived in New York, Barcelona and Rotterdam and learned to speak fluent English and Spanish. I also met great people and had an amazing time while doing it!
I'm now back home in France and spend most of my time guiding in the Alps. I'll be happy to take you rock climbing, skiing or mountaineering to some of my favorite spots.

Me and my partner had the goal to learn how to lead climb outside by ourselves. Within 2 days Max learned us the basics of how to safely lead climb outdoors. He knew where to take us in the area, that would and cover both our styles of climbing and would be bearable with the summer heat in France. I would recommend anyone who is looking to learn lead climbing outside or wants someone who knows the area, to book a trip with Max !

We had a fantastic climbing day with Max. He was fun to hang out with. He set up lots of climbs that were fun for all the abilities of our group. He made us feel safe and confident. Max’s English is perfect which meant a lot to some of us.

Maxence was absolutely great! Super friendly and knowledgeable. With very little back and forth he was able to plan a perfect climbing day trip for us, including our first multi-pitch climb (and all of this was actually a backup plan, since the area we were going climbing was closed due to high winds). I look forward to going climbing again in Calanque and would not hesitate to book him again!!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
