Because Iceland is so close to the Arctic, you can expect it to be generally cold. However, because of the volcanic activity and oceanic currents, it might not be as cold as you expect. In the winter, there is a wide range of temperatures depending on location. In the south, temperatures in winter are usually around the 0 °C range, whereas in the north, they can drop as low as −30 °C.
