Its seafront is lined with beautiful palm trees and ancient landscapes. Stunning limestone and sandstone crags rise above the Mediterranean Sea, some of which are volcanic. Why should I choose Larnaca for my Rock Climbing adventure?
Island of beauties
Resting in the east of the Mediterranean Sea is the island of Cyprus, the third largest in the sea after Sardinia and Sicily. It is dominated by the two mountain ranges of the Troodos Mountains and the smaller Kyrenia Range. And its steep valleys create breathtaking scenery that forms the ideal backdrop to thrilling rock climbs.
Rich wildlife
The flora and fauna of the island features a diverse collection because of the sharp differences in terrain, which is also accompanied with their own climate. The island is a stepping stone for migrating birds, such as the falcon, flamingo and eagle. While on the land roam the endemic Cypriot mouflon, a type of wild horned sheep, and the Cypriot mouse.
A culture of two
The island is divided by a border that cuts from west to east, with Turkish Cypriots to the north and Greek Cypriots to the south. Despite the military line the two communities share much in common from their cuisine and gestures to attitudes and ways of life. Getting to know the island means understanding the differences and similarities of these communities.
