Why should I choose Sarek National Park for my Hiking adventure?
Europe’s last wilderness
Located in the extreme north of Sweden in the region of Lapland, the Sarek National Park is one of the country’s most beautiful spots. High rugged peaks and breathtaking winds rivers, it is a paradise for those looking to reconnect with nature. There is virgin territory, unmarked paths and stunning scenery sweeping across the entire park, which is often described as Europe’s last wilderness.
Crisp landscapes
The wild terrain held within the park was once inhabited by the Sami people, who believed the high peaks to be sacred. And it’s easy to see why. Steep slopes are coloured by flowery blue-sow-thistles, white cotton grass carpets the plains, the spectacular delta of the Rapa River cuts and winds through the valley, where the nearby Skierfe mountain offers picturesque panoramas.
Hardcore wildlife
The national park mostly lies above the growth-limit of conifers and contains few lakes. As such it doesn’t hold a wide variety of wildlife. Yet pine forest carpets the lower altitudes, where the brown bear can be seen, as well as the endangered Eurasian lynx. The red fox roams the slopes while higher up you can find the arctic fox. Owls and woodpeckers can be heard calling from the mountains.
