What should I know about Backcountry Skiing Albania?
Located in the southeast of Europe, the territory of Albania contains a great diversity in climate, geology and landscape. It is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, the Republic of Macedonia to the east, Greece to the south, and to the west it is bound by both the Adriatic Sea and Ionian Sea. Ranging from snow-covered mountains that populate the Albanian Alps to the sunny and flat Mediterranean coast, the country offers spectacular scenery.
Why should I choose Albania for my Backcountry Skiing adventure?
Head into historic wilderness
Albania is mostly mountainous terrain that runs from the north of the country to the south. The endless supply of mountains contain slopes that are likely to be the last in Europe not yet to be reached via skiing. There are large swathes of thick snow blankets that are waiting to be explored. And with Albania’s skiing culture in its early years of development, there are no crowds to reach beyond to get to the great backcountry.
Beautiful Balkan scenery
The large collection of towering massifs stretches across the Balkan country of Albania from north to south. Covered with freshly arrived winter snow, many of the slopes are underexplored, with some never even been skied on before. The Albanian Alps stand to the north, the Sharr Mountains are to the northeast, the Skanderbeg Mountains in the central region, while the mountains of Korab, Pindus and Ceraunian stretch from the east to southwest.
Rich depth of diversity
Although Albania is quite a small country, it is characterised by large diversity, originating in the unique location of the country’s territory. Lying next to the Mediterranean Sea, various topography, and a wealth of ecosystems, Albania is home to hundreds of protected areas, nature reserves, national parks, archaeological parks and natural monuments.
